One was an attempted abduction in Cascade Township, the other a suspicious encounter in Gaines Township

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating two incidents involving children.  The latest happened this morning.

Authorities say around 8 am, Deputies responded to the M-6 Trail near Division and Eastern Avenue after a man approached three young children as they were riding their bikes to school.  Police say the man asked the children to go with him.  The children, all under the age of 13 were able to get to a safe location and called police.

This investigation is ongoing, and authorities say it is “not” connected to another investigation that is also ongoing.

The second incident occurred Tuesday around 4:30. The Sheriff’s office describes this as an attempted abduction of two children in the 7000 a block of Silverthorne Dr, SE in Cascade Township.  Police say a blue minivan, driven by a female approached a 12-year-old boy and ten-year-old girl as they were walking home from a bus stop, asking if they wanted a rid home. The van followed the children for a short distance.

Both cases are being investigated and authorities ask if you have any information on either, you are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 616 632 6125.
