Social media influencer hosts fundraiser for Muskegon shelter

Jordan’s Way

Kris Rotunda was live in Muskegon Wednesday broadcasting a fundraiser for the local animal shelter to his nearly one million followers

My name is Kris with Jordan’s Way. I go to all fifty states, over 300 shelters across the country…. So many shelters!”

Kris Rotunda named his site Jordan’s Way when the shelter dog he adopted years ago died of cancer. He now travels the country, using his media star power to rally people adopt pets and to donate online to various animal shelters. This week, one of his stops is the Big Lake Humane Society in Muskegon.

“We’re not just like every other shelter. We’re that shelter you really want to come to.”

Shelter manager Velvet Lyght says Rotunda creates fun-to-watch, high-energy challenges to meet donation goals like special hamburgers for all the dogs.

“We have a really cool one we’re going to do in our utility yard where we have humans in teams and they’re going to be running a dog agility course.”

Jordan’s Way has raised over $10 million for shelters and rescue groups in the U.S. Lyght says the initial goal for the Muskegon fundraiser is $15,000

“Which would be double the amount we‘ve ever made in our highest grossing fundraisers.”

Lyght says the money could help in a lot of areas of the aging facility that is more than 30 years old, but the biggest need is resealing the floor in the main dog room.

“The epoxy is completely peeled to the old concrete and that is an issue for handling disease control.”

After the live event, fundraising continues online through September 18 on Facebook, Venmo, or the Big Lake Human Society website.
