MDOT will hold public hearings before work begins

Community stakeholders, local business owners, and residents are welcome to attend one of three meetings to receive information, ask questions, and share comments regarding the proposed redevelopment of M-37, also known as Broadmoor Avenue and Cherry Valley Avenue SE, from south of 92nd Street to north of 76th Street in Caledonia.

According to MDOT, the 2.7-mile, two-lane road has seen heavy traffic congestion and established crash patterns during morning and afternoon rush hours for years. Between 2017 and 2021, sections of M-37 experienced crash rates of up to 82% higher than similar regions. Of those crashes, 62% were rear-end crashes at intersections attributed to traffic congestion.

MDOT says this section of road carries more than 20,000 vehicles per day and can no longer maintain the current flow of levels due to increased residential and commercial growth in the area.

Three public informational sessions are available today at Caledonia Christian Reformed Church, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. Each session is expected to last an hour and a half.

Residents can also review and comment on the project online at Michigan.gov/M37Project
