The Michigan Department of Transportation, or MDOT, will host a conceptual plan review for the public on Tuesday evening to review details of the planned rebuilding of M-46, also known as Apple Avenue, on the west side of US-131, from West Webster Avenue to Home Street.
The City of Muskegon Department of Public Works is partnering with MDOT to discuss alternate designs, including the possibility of changing lane configurations and adding non-motorized lanes. The project is expected to begin in Spring 2026 with a design that will last the next 50+ years.
The city’s engagement team met with local stakeholders in 2023 to gather input. Conversations ranged from lane setup and beautification to parking, speed limits, and bus stops. That info was shared with MDOT for them to draft plans for the project.
City representatives and MDOT staff will be available to field questions and listen to feedback.
The meeting will take place Tuesday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Robert C. Lighton Memorial Park in Muskegon, with City Hall as a backup in case of inclement weather. Additional public meetings are tentatively scheduled for this fall.
