Economic nonprofit development organization, The Right Place’s Manufacturing Council has teamed with the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center and Twisthink, a Grand Rapids firm specializing in new product innovations, to create an AI roadmap, a guide for West Michigan manufacturers on the best ways to utilize artificial intelligence within their own business.
The council consists of employees from local manufacturers like Steelcase, Cascade Engineering, and Wolverine Coil Spring.
Brad Comment is Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at The Right Place. He explains why the council came up with the idea for the roadmap over a year ago.
“I think at the time it was more around awareness of but not fully understanding what that means or how to leverage it. Many of them are already doing robotics and some sort of automation within it, but what does AI really mean and how can I leverage that as a tool for my business?”
Comment says one of the best ways to learn about utilizing AI in manufacturing is to share your stories with other business owners.
“We want our manufacturers to learn from one another from a peer-to-peer system. I think we have a strength here in our region to do that, and so it’s sharing your stories with AI, when you’ve leveraged AI.”
Comment says despite the uncertainty often associated with new technology, he hopes the roadmap gives companies the confidence to begin their own AI journey.
