Rashad Trice, who kidnapped and killed two-year-old, sentenced to life in prison

Trice pled guilty this past July to one count each of First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

27-year-old Rashad Trice of Lansing has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2023 murder of his ex-girlfriend’s daughter, 2-year-old Wynter Cole-Smith.

He was also given a concurrent sentence of 60-90 years’ incarceration for the sexual assault and stabbing of the young girl’s mother.

Trice pled guilty this past July to one count each of First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

On July 2nd, 2023, Trice sexually assaulted and stabbed his former girlfriend and kidnapped her daughter, Wynter, from Lansing. Trice then killed the toddler by strangling her before resisting arrest and was ultimately apprehended in St. Clair Shores. Wynter’s body was discovered in a Detroit alley after a three-day search involving multiple agencies.
