”I got Nikes.”
Delray is a third grader who just scored some Air Jordans for the new school year.
“I like them because they’re good for basketball and they’re comfy… once you get used to them”
He’s one of more than 4,100 elementary students in Kent County getting brand new shoes this year from non-profit “In the Image” bought with donations and handed out with the help of nearly 600 volunteers.
“In the Image” began the SHOES program in 1996 as an opportunity to help families with costs and give students a confidence boost.
The event also features free vision screenings and referrals to other local resources that can help throughout the school year.
To qualify, families must live in Kent County and have a child enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The event runs through Saturday at Devos Place in Grand Rapids; check the “In the Image” website for times and registration or to donate.
