Grand Rapids Public Schools is looking for community feedback on renovation plans for one of its older buildings

Sigsbee School opened as an elementary school in 1975. Since the elementary school closed in 2004, the building has been used to house GRPS staff and was also leased out to a private preschool operator.

Now, GRPS wants the community’s input on how the building should be renovated.

One of the first renovation projects funded by the $305 million bond passed by voters last November, work is expected to begin this summer with a proposed $7 million budget.

The renovation will turn the old school into the new Southeast Career Pathways. Currently, Southeast Career Pathways is located on Jefferson Avenue Southeast. Students will be able to start attending the new school in August 2025.

Planned renovations include expanding windows, a safe and secure entrance, kitchen upgrades, masonry restoration, parking lot repairs, upgrading heating and air conditioning units as well as building finishes and lighting, and replacing building furnishings.

The community input session will take place Monday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at Sigsbee School.
