U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers had his moment in the spotlight Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, giving a short speech to boost his campaign
The former Congressman and FBI agent is the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in the race to replace Democrat Debbie Stabenow.
Rogers told WDET Detroit that the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump can likely be attributed to mistakes by the U.S. Secret Service, and not part of a larger conspiracy:
“It could have been as easy as they thought it was one of their own, that building was being used as a staging area. They just weren't sure, and they were trying to get it clarified too late. Or it could have been something worse. I don't know. I'm going to guess the first, not the latter, but I will tell you what somebody needs to be held to account on this.”
Rogers brought in just over two million dollars last quarter, doubling his fundraising from the previous three months.
However, it pales in comparison to the Democratic frontrunner, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, who raised nearly 6.5 million dollars.
