Representative Neil Friske missed House session while he remained lodged in the Lansing city jail awaiting arraignment on at least one “felony-level” offense.
The Ingham County prosecutor says he’s waiting for a warrant to be filed before announcing any charging decisions. That might not happen before the weekend.
A statement from the Lansing Police says Friske was arrested at about 2:45am after officers responded to a report of shots fired.
Friske is one of the more conservative members of the House Republican caucus.
A Facebook post by his campaign says Friske “is always exercising his 2nd Amendment right.” The post also questioned the timing of his arrest as Friske heads into a contested GOP primary in his northern Michigan district.
