First Lady Jill Biden is traveling to West Michigan as part of the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research.
She’s expected to fly into the Gerald R Ford International Airport around 11:30 and later deliver remarks at the Ford Foundation’s Annual First Ladies Luncheon.
It is the first time a sitting First Lady has been the keynote speaker.
Former First Ladies Rosalynn Carter, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Laura Bush have attended previously.
Dr. Biden is expected to spotlight her view on how the Biden-Harris administration is fundamentally changing how the nation approaches and funds women’s health research.
Following the luncheon is a free public event honoring Betty Ford’s 50th anniversary as First Lady with expert discussions on the historical role of the position.
Panelists will focus on Betty Ford’s leadership as well as her contributions to women’s health by sharing publicly her breast cancer diagnosis and her open discussions of mental health and addiction.
The luncheon is a ticketed event; the afternoon conference is open to the public at the Gerald R Ford Presidential Museum. Registration for the free event is on the Ford Foundation website.
