Airport officials are advising you arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your departure time.

All you have to do is check the Gerald R. Ford International Airport’s website, no way to miss it’s advisory: right at the top it says, “attention travelers” Increased passenger Levels for Spring Break Travel.”

But whether you check or not, you should know that there will be lots of folks traveling, with the busiest departure day expected today. You can anticipate long lines at ticket counters, security checkpoints and gate service counters. Airport officials are advising you arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your departure time. Also note that parking lots will also be busier than normal.

Here’s Communications and Events Associate, Heidi Groenboom,

“We’re planning to see about 16 percent above last year’s spring break levels, so about 195-thousand passengers from yesterday to April 8th, that’s kind of our spring break period.”

With record breaking travel in mind, airport officials say as you consider arriving early, don’t forget about various construction activities on 28th street. Trouble spots could cause delays. They also advise travelers to carefully consider the contents of their checked and carry-on luggage, making sure there are no “prohibited” items inside. They also say over packed bags can slow down security screenings.

And if you’re one who likes to arrive early, Friday is also the Airports annual Passenger Appreciation where airport guests can enjoy live music, refreshments, prizes and more throughout the day.
