The Michigan Department of Transportation will host a live virtual public meeting to discuss major projects affecting West Michigan roadways throughout the year.
MDOT’s John Richard says it’s a great opportunity for residents to learn how to receive project-specific updates and other traffic information throughout the season.
“It’s just a heads up on all the major projects in Kent County. There’s a couple in Allegan County, Ottawa County, so folks can tune in and find out exactly what’s going on. They can tune in to find out how to stay informed with each project.”
One of those Kent County projects will involve the total closure of northbound 131 at 28th Street as crews make bridge improvements over Plaster Creek. That will allow for much needed pavement joint repair. That begins Easter Sunday and should last about a month.
“And then once northbound is done, we open up northbound and then we close southbound 131 at Burton. And the reason for the total closure is because this bridge rehabilitation work, the bridge can’t have any vibrations, it can’t have any load or weight on it.”
You can attend the online meeting on Thursday at 5 p.m. here.
