Bing Goei speaks at GR City Commission meeting 03/19/24

Goei took the oath of office last night. Voters will select a permanent commissioner to fill the 3rd ward seat in the August primary or November election

“Perform the duties of city commissioner to the best of your abilities so help you God? I do.”

Businessman Bing Goei was selected from three finalists to serve the remaining months of 3rd ward commissioner Nathanial Moody’s term. Goei, who owns eastern floral and the Goei Events Center, says it’s an honor.

“I’m grateful I live in a country that allows every one of you and all of us to express our opinions to our elected officials.”

Goei and his family immigrated to the U.S. from Indonesia. He has lived in Grand Rapids for over 60 years. Mayor Roselynn Bliss says they’ve been friends for decades.

“And during that time I have been able to see his heart for service.”

Voters will select a permanent commissioner to fill the 3rd ward seat in the August primary or November election. In the meantime.

“My promise to you as I serve in this seat although I will represent the 3rd Ward, I will also represent the city of Grand Rapids.”
