Prosecutors claim mother of Oxford High School shooter was more concerned with herself than her troubled son

The involuntary manslaughter trial for Jennifer Crumbley resumed yesterday

The prosecution accuses Jennifer Crumbley and her husband of ignoring signs their son could become violent and instead buying him the gun he used to kill four classmates at Oxford High.

School counselor Shawn Hopkins testified he took the shooter out of a classroom the day of the massacre, then called the Crumbleys to meet them because he feared their son could be suicidal.

But Hopkins told prosecutors the parents refused to immediately seek counseling for their son...and seemed more interested in returning to their jobs.

HOPKINS: “Once we had kind of gotten to that point I allowed the student to go back to class. And then Mom asked if we were done.”

PROSECUTOR: “Those were her words...’Are we done?” “Yes.” “What was your response to that?” “My response was...I guess so.”

Hopkins had previously refused to cooperate with an independent investigation that found he failed to alert the school principal about the son’s behavior...which would have triggered a threat assessment of the shooter.
