Coffee company expansion plans continue in Norton Shores

Heather Kim/NPR

A Norton Shores coffee company is looking for more land to expand after being purchased by Chobani

In December Chobani, known for its yogurt products, bought LaColombe, a coffee company with production sites in Norton Shores, where its popular canned coffees are made.

As part of the $900 million acquisition, a Chobani spokesperson says previous expansion plans in Muskegon County will continue. Plans include expanding coffee roasting, concentrate extraction, filling, packaging and processing.

The physical footprint will use all the land the company currently has in Norton Shores, and they’ll keep looking for additional property as well.

Chobani says there’s a natural complement between coffee and yogurt products which will open cross-marketing opportunities for both companies.

They say the acquisition is about creating growth for both brands over the long term.
