Man charged in burger restaurant shooting

Public Domain Mark 1.0

Tuesday, prosecutors filed assault charges against a Grand Rapids man after a shooting at a burger restaurant. Some residents are calling for a boycott of the restaurant.

Police responded to a call of shots fired last Wednesday at 10pm at
J Burger-n-Wings on Eastern Avenue near Burton on Grand Rapids southeast side.

The female victim and her son were not hurt but officers did take a suspect into custody after what they call a “high-risk traffic stop.”

They said his role at the business was unclear at the time.

Tuesday prosecutors filed one charge of assault with a deadly weapon against Lihao Wang. The felony charge carries a maximum term of 4 years in prison.

Wednesday night social media users began calling for a boycott of J Burgers after a woman posted she’d been at the restaurant with her 13 year old son and argued with the man behind the counter about paying for her food.

According to her social media posts, he followed her outside and shot at her car, leaving bullet holes.

Police have not confirmed her account but protestors visited the restaurant Thursday and continue to call for a boycott on social media.
