Superheroes to take over downtown GR in new family 5K

Hope Network

Hope Network and Celebration Cinema have teamed up for the “Heroes For Hope” event to benefit mental health.

A news release says it’s a family-friendly event that invites heroes of all ages to wear their favorite superhero costume. There’s a free kids run along with the 5k run/walk.

The post-race celebration at Studio Park includes music, food and drinks and superheroes on the big screen. The entire morning is part of Hope Networks’s “One In Five” series, which raises funds and support for the one in five people who are dealing with a mental health issue.

The news release also says the cause behind all of the events in the One In Five Series continues to be vitally important, including updated research showing that in 2022, more than 1.5 million people, or 20.3 percent of the population experienced mental illness. In addition, they say depression is the number one cause of illness and disability worldwide.

Erik Wolenberg is the Hope Network Foundation Executive Director, he says quote, “May is mental health awareness month and what a perfect time for this new superhero community celebration,” said “This is a great way for everyone to come together and have a lot of fun to support mental health, regardless of their age or ability.”

The 5 K will take place downtown Grand Rapids on Sunday May 7th at 8:30 am.
