MI House passes safe storage bills

The Michigan House voted to require safe gun storage and suspend sales-and-use taxes on safety devices Wednesday

Supporters say the bills will keep kids safe when there are guns in the home.

But Republican Representative Andrew Fink says he’d rather see the package take a more individualized approach.

“Parents are generally in a better position to know exactly what safety steps would be ideal to protect their own kids.”

Democratic Representative Felicia Brabec is among the package sponsors. She says lawmakers have to “do the most good for the most people.”

“We cannot have ten million laws for ten million residents in Michigan. We can’t function that way.”

Lawmakers in both the House and Senate have been working on the similar gun bills for around a month now.
