Academy System says B.O.E. violated proper protocols when it fired President

A judge has granted a restraining order filed by the Muskegon Heights Public Schools Academy System against Its Board of Education.

The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System had filed a temporary restraining order against the district’s elected board of education.

Its legal team argued in the motion, that the Board of Education had violated the proper protocol of removing an academy system board member when they fired President Antonette Robinson last week.

Attorney Eric Delaporte filed the motion on behalf of the district.

“The purpose of the restraining order it to maintain the status quo, while the two sides work out their differences,” Delaporte said. “Respectfully, the board did not follow proper procedures when they added a board member and removed Mrs. Robinson.”

Plagued by severe staffing shortages so far this school year, the elected Board of Education says it fired President Robinson after the Academy didn’t come up with a corrective action plan to fix the district’s issues by an imposed deadline.

Meanwhile Robinson has refused to step down as President, telling board members she will leave it up to the court to decide.

A judge so far has sided with the district, as 14th District Court judge Kenneth Hoopes approved the restraining order request last week.
