Jonathan Seyferth selected by city commission over current City Manager Interim LeighAnn Mikesell

After a long search that stretched over eight months, Muskegon may have found its next City Manager.

Sources say the position of City Manager has been offered to Jonathan Seyferth, one of two finalists for the job, the other finalist being current City Manager Interim LeighAnn Mikesell.

If Seyferth accepts the position, it would be a homecoming of sorts, as Seyferth once served as the Downtown Development manager for Muskegon. He currently serves as the Gaines Township Supervisor and previously served as Coopersville City Manager for three years.

On Friday, Muskegon Commissioners conducted second round interviews where Seyferth laid out his plans for the city and how he would lead if given the opportunity, including what he would for the first 180 days on the job.

“Mostly listen,” Seyferth said.

The offer to Seyferth comes as somewhat of a surprise, as sources had told WGVU that LeighAnn Mikesell was all but a shoo-in for the position, having served in the role as interim since former City Manager Frank Peterson announced his resignation earlier this year.

WGVU will update this story as more information becomes available.
