Rep. Amash tweets Attorney General Sessions should recuse himself

Michigan Representative Justin Amash joined a number of Republican's who are calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from FBI investigations of Russian interference during the Presidential election.

In a tweet sent out Tuesday, Amash said "AG Sessions should recuse himself from the Russian investigation."

The attorney general denied having any involvement with Russian officials during his confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. However, investigations by the FBI and Justice Department revealed that Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice in 2016.

While Amash only stated that Sessions should disassociate himself from the investigations, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took it 0ne step further Tuesday and said that Sessions should resign from his post.

As Attorney General, Sessions oversees the Federal Bureau of Investigations and Justice Department. Sessions said in response Tuesday he will recuse himself from the investigation "whenever it is appropriate."

If Sessions ends up resigning, it would be the second resignation under Donald Trump's administration. On February 14, National Security Advisor Michael Flynn resigned after misleading White House officials about meeting with a Russian ambassador during the Presidential campaign.
