Amash town hall turns into shouting match

US Representative Justin Amash addressed critics and supporters Thursday night as the congressman held a town hall in Grand Rapids. Amash began by saying he thinks there should be town halls happening across the nation.  

“Alright so I’m Congressman Amash, and, I think it is critical that members of congress hold in person town halls like this,“ Amash said. 

Hundreds of people packed into the auditorium at City Middle High School in Grand Rapids to pose and sometimes scream questions at Representative Amash. The fourth term congressman opened up the town hall by addressing President Donald Trump’s immigration executive order.

“Now I have a lot of concerns with this executive order, and I have called a part of it unlawful,” Amash said. 

As Amash spoke about the order, a member of the audience read out loud the breaking news: that a federal appeals court has just ruled that previously barred refugees and citizens can continue entering the United States, sending the crowd into a thunderous applause.

However the crowd quickly turned on Amash when he said that he supported replacing the Affordable Health Care Act.

“The main problem with the ACA is that it does not reduce health care costs overall. So it has shifted, it has shifted the cost, it has not reduced cost, so when people go to the doctor it doesn’t cost as much,” Amash said. 

While Amash answered, the gathering seemed to shift from Town Hall to shouting match as people stopped waiting their turn to voice their opinions. The
