Shooting in Grand Rapids has police looking for suspect

Another shooting in Grand Rapids, this time on the southwest corner of the the city's Baxter neighborhood. Officers responded to a call at the intersection of Franklin St. and Geneva Avenue after a report of multiple gunshots were reported by area residents. Police on the scene found a 21-year-old man who was shot in the back.

In the chaos, officers ordered occupants out of a residence on Franklin Street they suspected may be hiding the shooter. Several people were questioned, however no arrests were made. The victim is being treated at an area hospital, and while his injuries are serious, he is expected to survive.

The shooting came hours after a 15-year-old boy was shot at Grand Rapids’ Buchanan Elementary School which prompted school officials to go on lockdown Wednesday afternoon. However, police officials say the shootings are not related. The police department's Major Case Team is investigating the incident. Anyone having additional information is requested to call the police department.

The suspect is still at large.
