A western Michigan man will spend a year in jail for failing to stop at a crash that killed a 50-year-old Detroit-area bicyclist.

The Muskegon Chronicle and WZZM-TV report that 27-year-old Ronnie Jo Claflin also was sentenced Tuesday in Muskegon County Circuit Court to five years' probation and more than $21,000 in restitution.

Susan Cummings, a nurse from Lake Orion, was part of a group bicycling across Michigan's Lower Peninsula.

She was struck Aug. 8, 2015 by a truck while riding from Montague Township to Bay City.

She was raising money for the Hope Water Project.

Claflin came forward a few days after the crash.
