Prison guard accused of lying to police to stand trial

A suspended state Corrections officer accused of lying to police investigating a relative in the shooting death of a jogger and kidnapping of a teenager in western Michigan will stand trial. T

he Muskegon Chronicle and WZZM-TV report that Kevin Bluhm waived a preliminary examination Tuesday in Muskegon County District Court. Bluhm is the cousin of Jeffrey Willis, who is charged with abducting a 16-year-old girl in April and the 2014 slaying of 36-year-old Rebekah Bletsch in Dalton Township.

Willis also is being investigated in the 2013 disappearance of gas station clerk Jessica Heeringa in Norton Shores. Bluhm also is charged with lying to police investigating Heeringa's disappearance.

A judge on Tuesday adjourned that preliminary examination to Aug. 9 to allow Bluhm's attorney to receive material from prosecutors.
