Saugatuck has decided to invest in a beach cleaning machine in an effort to improve visitors' experience at Oval Beach.

The Holland Sentinel reports that the Saugatuck City Council on Monday night approved the purchase of more than $100,000 worth of equipment.

The city will spend almost $54,000 on a beach cleaner and an additional $55,000 on a tractor to pull it.

Saugatuck City Manager Kirk Harrier says the beach cleaner will be used three times a week to clear litter and debris from Oval Beach.

He says other beach-community leaders on Lake Michigan have their shorelines cleaned at least three times a week.
