Excavation company dividing 29 acres in Kentwood into lots for homes

Excel Excavation

Excel Excavation say they are addressing an unmet demand

“We are trying to sell to individual builders.”

Spencer Galloway says he and his father Cameron are addressing a need in the new home market, buyers looking for an empty lot with utilities and city streets where they can build a custom home.

“Anybody that wants to be in a neighborhood, you are pretty much stuck with a production builder.”

The father and son owners of Excel Excavation are dividing 29 acres along Wing Avenue in Southwest Kentwood into 61 buildable lots for individual buyers or small developers.

“Ma and pop builders I call them, one to five homes a year.”

To make sure the new homes fit in with the country, farm feel of the area.

“Old farmhouses and rolling terrain.”

Each home design must include trees, and features like wood and stone accents, chimneys or a porch. The Galloways will approve the plans.

“We are retaining a right to look at every single design and say no that doesn’t work here.”

Lori Sheldon and some others are concerned about extra traffic on Wing Avenue.

“I just beg you to do something about the road.”

The development is named Walnut Woods and Councilwoman Betsy Artz thinks it will benefit the community.

“I really like this. We are going to get some different homes. I hope it turns out as well as I think it’s going to.”
