MDARD urges pet safety during holidays

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is reminding Michiganders to make sure they keep their pets healthy and safe during this holiday season

As Michiganders put the final touches on their decorative displays, holiday menus, and travel plans, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development or MDARD is reminding owners of some of the best ways to keep their pets healthy and safe this holiday.

State Veterinarian Nora Wineland says, “As we plan our festivities, we want our pets to be comfortable and calm,” she adds,“There are many precautions owners can take to keep their animals safe this season.”

Here are a few tips MDARD offers: for one avoid feeding pets people foods. Keep decorations out of reach, make sure pets have proper identification in case they sneak out and get lost. And make sure you have a quiet space for your pets

And If you will be travelling with your pets this holiday season, talk with your veterinarian to determine what steps, documents, or preventative care might be needed to ensure your pet is ready to go! You can find more info on animal health at Michigan.gov/mdard/animals
