A new report from the state auditor is finding lingering problems within Michigan’s Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility

The report follows up on audits conducted in 2017 and 2020.

It found the Department of Corrections had not fully complied with recommendations for better searches of cells, prisoners, and employees.

Department spokesperson Chris Gautz says these are things that are typically done, quote: “above and beyond.”

“In this particular case, they happened to find there were things that needed corrective action. We have taken that, we agreed with the findings, we reviewed what they found when they looked through old video and old logs just to see and this is how it’s supposed to work.”

The follow-up did find another issue involving access to potentially dangerous tools had been addressed.
