CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children living in foster care.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and Spring Lake Fire Department will host the fundraising event from 10am-2pm March 12, raising donations like non-perishable foods and hygiene products for The People Center in Spring Lake.

"This trip is a culmination of the work of our anti-racism task force and the lens of cultural immersion," Barbara Lee VanHorssen, Executive Director of the Momentum Center, said.

"We recognized that in order to create a more welcoming community where new Americans who resettled can find a place of belonging and home again it takes the whole community," Tarah Carnahan, Executive Director and Co-founder, explained.

The funds will support participation, covering expenses like uniforms, badges and programs as well as new troop development.
