Michigan prosecutors are still asking for more time to respond to a recent state Supreme Court ruling that banned mandatory life sentences for 19- and 20-year-olds.

An American Civil Liberties Union attorney says the legislation is probably unconstitutional because it would automatically change all the sentences without court hearings

The majority decision held that the sentences constitute “unconstitutionally harsh and disproportionate punishment”
