The $165 million project redesigns the EV Eberhard Center on GVSU’s downtown City Campus as a space for tech education for all disciplines, including a three-story addition to house the College of Computing, WGVU Public Media studios, event space, labs and classrooms.
Sharing digital renderings of the new space, GVSU President Dr. Philomena Mantella noted the Blue Dot Lab is a starting place for connections throughout the university and greater community.
“Think about what becomes possible when computing connects responsibly with healthcare, business, education, and the sciences, engineering, and the arts. New approaches to treat disease, smarter manufacturing, better ways to educate children, new businesses and industries.”
Provost for Academic Affairs Jennifer Drake emphasized that the Innovation Lab building is part of GVSU’s concept of a larger Blue Dot Ecosystem – a network of partnerships and technology designed to allow students to develop digital skills and explore emerging technology while expanding tech talent for the region and offering business solutions.
“The ecosystem includes our Valley Campus. It includes our Institute in Muskegon. It includes the amazing work we do up on the Medical Mile. We're thinking about multiple terms of connectivity, and this building and this space being a very visible point of entry to the university, for everyone.”
GVSU has now also approved double majors pairing computer science degrees with five disciplines including business, health, and mathematics.
