The county estimates the renewal would raise approximately $226,000 in its first year supporting veterans’ services

Newaygo County residents will vote on the veterans’ services millage renewal proposal, which would levy 0.0940 mill for every $1,000 of taxable property value for 10 years, from 2028 through 2037.

If approved, a resident with taxable property valued at $200,000 would pay around $19 annually.

The county estimates the renewal would raise approximately $226,000 in its first year supporting veterans’ services.

The Newaygo County Department of Veterans Affairs in White Cloud provides claims assistance, emergency financial relief, burial aid, and medical transportation services.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 3,000 veterans live in Newaygo County, with around 11% of Fremont’s adult population comprised of military veterans.
