Extra buses and park-and-ride connections coming for downtown events

The Rapid

Getting around downtown Grand Rapids during events will get a little easier when the bus system expands, addressing higher demand when multiple venues are in use

Grand Rapids bus transit system, The Rapid, received a $6 million grant from the state Infrastructure Projects Authority Fund to support additional service during major events downtown.

The project helps fund enhancements to the fixed-route and DASH services, including more park-and-ride connections.

The upgrades call for adding up to six additional buses on high-demand evenings to increase passenger capacity and improve bus frequency while connecting regional parking facilities to downtown destinations like the Van Andel Arena, Devos Place, Acrisure Amphitheater and Amway Soccer Stadium.

The Rapid will coordinate with the city, Mobile GR, the venues and other regional partners to offer additional options for residents, visitors and employees working evening and weekend shifts.
