AAA: Michigan travelers who delay holiday bookings may pay more

Gerald R. Ford International Airport

If you’re considering traveling over the upcoming holidays, AAA says you may want to start making those plans now

With Labor Day in the rear-view mirror, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are in full view as it relates to upcoming travel plans. In a recent survey, AAA found that more than two-fifths of Michiganders delayed booking a trip and later paid more.

With that, AAA is encouraging travelers to start planning their holiday trips now. The survey showed that many people delay making plans due to budget concerns or hopes for lower prices.

Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA the Auto Club Group says, “Many travelers are hoping to find a better deal by waiting,” she adds, "Unfortunately, our survey shows that strategy doesn't always pay off.”

The survey also found that staying within budget and finding the best price are travelers' biggest sources of planning stress. Overspending is the most common travel-planning regret, followed by waiting too long to book.

They advise that starting to plan your holiday trip early offers ease of mind, more flight and hotel options as well as more time to compare destinations and pricing.
