Cherry Health partnered with Woda Cooper Companies to create Shea Ravines, a 56-unit affordable housing community on Burlingame Avenue and 28th Street in Wyoming.
The $18.6 million development is adjacent to Cherry Health’s Wyoming Community Health Center, an important component says Chief Operating Officer Bill Joure.
“If you’re not stablely (sic) housed, it’s hard to worry about your blood pressure or your cancer screening or any of the preventative services we provide, much less day-in/day-out care of your good health.”
Shea Ravines offers one- and two-bedroom apartments for singles, families and seniors who earn 30-80% of the median income with rents ranging between $500 to $1300 monthly.
The development also includes 20 units reserved for renters exiting homelessness with rent assistance from the Grand Rapids Housing Commission and nonprofit support services.
“It’s an important part of not just someone’s health but their dignity and the way they’re able to live their lives.”
The second phase of Shea Ravines is under construction, expected to be completed by spring 2027, adding 56 affordable homes to the complex.
