“Looking forward to the November 3 election season. Not one day anymore, its over several days.”
Grand Rapids clerk Joel Hondorp says election day is November third, but the November election extends over 2 weeks.
“We are going to have 13 days of early voting. The constitution mandates we have nine. We are going to add 4 more days starting on Tuesday October 20 at four locations not three locations.”
Hondorp says participation in the August primary was up 7 percent, many voting by mail.
“Just barely over 50 percent of voters voted absentee or early.”
And with the race for governor, the U.S. Senate and tax millage requests for the Kent County jail, the zoo and Public Museum on the ballot, he expects a good turnout in November.
“There is a lot of interest in this election so we will probably see a little bit higher turnout this November.”

Hondorp has social media messages ready reminding people to vote.
“Try to keep high energy and get these out.”
He says in Grand Rapids the November election starts this week with the delivery of mail in ballots.
“Our plan is to mail out ballots by the 24th of September.”
