The Michigan Trust Building at 40 Pearl Street NW built in 1892 was the site of a speech by Theodore Roosevelt in 1900 and served as Gerald Ford’s early law office.
Now, it’s set to host a 63-room hotel, fitness center, spa, bar and event venue.

Sam Cummings is managing partner of CWD Real Estate partnering with Vault Hotels, a team renovating historic buildings into one-or-a-kind hotels in cities across Michigan. CEO Cofounder Jen Julien looked at several area properties.

Existing commercial tenants like Hylant and NPF Financial Advisors signed long-term lease renewals and will remain in the building.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027 with a targeted opening date in 2028.
