A drop of blood could soon predict and prevent disease before you feel sick, predicts the world-renown scientist visiting Grand Rapids Thursday

“If we have a workforce that can live and function into their 100’s, that changes the whole dimension of how you think about things.”

Dr. Lee Hood is a world-renowned scientist whose work is transforming the study of human genes, biology and personalized health.

At a Tech Week event sponsored by Grand Valley State University, Dr. Hood explained how AI tools are speeding the analysis of human genome mapping and informing wellness strategies to move healthcare beyond treating disease into preventing it.

“We can take a fraction of a drop of blood, and we can measure every single viral infection you’ve ever had in your entire life. Those are important because they predispose to a lot of diseases, especially immunologic diseases.”

Hood sees a future in which AI will map a person’s individual health then offer actions to optimize wellness to prevent issues before they begin.

“It’s not ready to go but in six months, all of this will be fully automated and ready to go so it’s going to change the world.”
