Caiden Meade is a graduate of the Grand Rapids Public Museum School which uses progressive teaching techniques and real-life experiences to nurture innovative education.
Founder Dr. Chris Hanks presented the school’s immersive concept to the Michigan Department of Education Board.
“We connect scholars to museum artifacts, experiences and exhibits every day. The GRPM holds more than 250K artifacts that our scholars can handle, explore, learn to care for, learn to tell stories with.”
The presentation highlighted outcomes of XQ Institute’s The Future is High School Report, noting Michigan as a leader addressing six of ten recommended policy areas.
Museum School sophomore Lady Friend shared how community-based learning works in practice.
“We had a session where we just went and walked downtown for two-hours and just explored African American history in Grand Rapids. We talked about red-lining and the KKK walk down Bridge Street that happened. “
Museum School leaders noted their graduation rate has grown from 89% in its first year to over 95% today.
