Mobile GR began searching for a new micromobility vendor in March. Both Lime and Veo applied to provide the city with electric bikes and scooters for public use. Trent Serra is Grand Rapids’ micromobility program manager.
“We wanted to highlight safety and affordability as our key considering factors in the RFP process. Veo really shined in both of those areas with some really exciting safety technology.”
The agreement with California-based Veo is for a three-year contract beginning September 1st. City officials say Veo was chosen because it offers lower prices and more accessible options for riders, including commuter membership, transit rebates and free adaptive devices for wheelchair users.
“They also have a very exciting pricing model that is, pretty much across the board, cheaper for all of our users, and especially for those in situations of particular financial hardship with their Veo access program.”
That program costs $5 a month and offers 30 free riding minutes each day. Veo will also offer a seated scooter option and a limited number of trikes.
Veo’s standard rate is $1 to unlock plus 33 cents per minute. That’s slightly lower than Lime’s current rate, which charges 36 cents per minute.
