Some Grand Rapids residents will be able to start riding Lime e-bikes and e-scooters for free.

The City of Grand Rapids and Lime have launched a new pilot program for residents who qualify for state and federal subsidies such as SNAP, Medicaid and WIC.

Eligible residents will be able to take five free, 30-minute rides each day as part of the Lime Access program.

Lime had already offered discounted rides for some residents since 2022 through Lime Access. Riding an e-scooter or e-bike through neighborhoods like Garfield Park, Roosevelt Park and John Ball Park automatically receive a 30% discount.

Lime has had e-scooters and e-bikes in Grand Rapids since 2011. Around 266,000 riders have taken more than 832,000 rides over the last three years.

Lime will be conducting research in conjunction with researchers from McGill University before, during, and after the launch of the new program, to see what lessons can be applied to equity in micromobility in the future.

To see if you qualify, you can visit Lime’s website and apply for Lime Access.
