Family Welcome Ambassadors will set the tone at Pine Rest’s Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health, welcoming families with warmth, offering directions and answering questions.
While no special skills are required, Volunteer Coordinator Kristi Kier says the role is critical for families in crisis.
“A lot of times it's hard to come looking for help. It's overwhelming. It's scary, so just walking in the door is a big deal. And having somebody there who is smiling and welcoming and putting them at ease, showing them where to go, assisting them with maybe younger brothers and sisters who have to come along, that kind of a person is going to make a world of difference.”
Kier adds that volunteers provide an extra layer of hospitality, freeing up medical teams.
“Our clinical staff are there to take care of the clinical needs of the patients primarily, giving that excellent care and support. They also are certainly focusing on creating an environment that's warm, that's welcoming, that is comfortable for people but having volunteers there to ease that front desk area gives our staff the time to provide care, while also giving us that extra layer of welcome and hospitality.”
Applicants must be at least 18, pass background checks and health screenings, and commit to at least one four-hour shift per week.
