The operating millage for the Patmos Library in Ottawa County’s Jamestown Township is a renewal of the previous operating millage, which expired in 2025, and would not be an increase for residents.
The millage provides funds for operating, maintaining and equipping the library for another five years.
If approved, the rate of 0.4040 mill, or about $0.40 per $1,000 of a resident’s taxable value, would be levied against all taxable property within the township through 2030. The Township says the millage would raise around $308,000 in the first year.
A home with a $100,000 taxable value would pay $40.40 per year in property taxes.
The Patmos Library has drawn national attention in the past for tensions over books featuring LGBTQ+ topics. It also faced potential closure over funding issues, but after three millage votes, funding was secured in November 2023.
