On its website, Patmos Library announced its reopening.
Earlier this month, five employees resigned from the library, leading to its temporary closure. One of those employees, Kylie Luciano, posted a video to her Facebook page on May 13th explaining why she and others resigned.
“We left because it became impossible to do our jobs with dignity while being constantly undermined and harassed.”
The Patmos Library has drawn national attention in the past for tensions over books featuring LGBTQ+ topics. It also faced potential closure over funding issues, but after three millage votes, funding was secured in November 2023.
Luciano said members of the library board made it impossible for her and other staff members to do their jobs.
“We were asking for respect and for the chance to keep doing what we love without being belittled or silenced.”
A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28th at 1 p.m. at the library to discuss the employment situation.
We reached out to the library board President for this story but have yet to hear back.
