Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education Trustee Erika VanDyke says the first community town hall meeting to discuss the selection of the district’s next superintendent is August 11th.
“Just want to make sure the public knows we are going to start doing community listening.”
Board President José Rodriguez says four community town halls are planned, 3 in August one in September to help develop an applicant profile, guide the recruitment process and choose search firms to identify qualified applicants.
“I knows some folks want to have some choice in who we are choosing and I think that is great”
The board will accept superintendent applications until October 4th.
“I’m hopeful as a board and as a district we recognize that responsibility to be proximate to our community throughout this process.”
Current Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby is under contract until next June. To accept input on her replacement the district is also posting an online survey.
“A lot of different ways to engage in that. Proximity to community is our greatest responsibility and our greatest strength.”
