Called “Camp 911” , the series of camps kicks off today in Hudsonville. About 150 young people ages 9 to 11 are participating in a free summer session sponsored by Life EMS Ambulance. They’re offered in partnership with local fire and public safety departments. The camps provide hands-on safety training and emergency response education.
A news release says the unique, interactive camp experience teaches kid-friendly prevention techniques and safety lessons, ranging from summer-focused water and boat safety to basic first aid and fire safety, including demonstrations with K-9 dogs.
The hands-on sessions are designed to provide youth with the knowledge, skills and confidence to protect themselves and react safely in emergency situations, with instruction provided by Life EMS Ambulance paramedics, local law enforcement, and fire department personnel.
Since the program’s inception in 2000, more than 11,000 youth have learned life-saving techniques.
