Grand Rapids-based housing nonprofit LINC UP is hosting its annual Rock the Block event this Saturday, but this year’s festival is a little different.

“It’s an annual community gathering that brings together residents, local businesses, organizations, resource providers, for a day of connection, culture and community.”

LINC UP Communications Manager Kay Bianchi says this year’s Rock the Block: Unplugged is a reimagined community gathering bringing Grand Rapids’ Southtown residents together.

“We’re definitely going to have a tight-knit space, but it’s going to be the same vibe: family-friendly environment, local vendors, community resources, food and music, and opportunities to connect with your neighbor.”

Bianchi says due to limited staffing this year, the event will take place outside LINC UP’s headquarters at 1167 Madison Avenue Southeast, making for a more scaled, intentional experience. She hopes this year’s Rock the Block reflects LINC UP’s mission.

“By bringing resources directly into the neighborhood, supporting local entrepreneurs, encouraging civic participation, and helping residents build relationships with one another.”

Rock the Block: Unplugged takes place this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
