The outbreak is known to have sickened 184 people in 31 states

A multistate salmonella outbreak is affecting Michigan with 21 cases reported, of which 29 percent are in children.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says cases in the outbreak are related to contact with young poultry, specifically chicks and ducklings.

184 people in 31 states have reportedly been sickened. Health experts say young children, older adults and those with compromised immune systems should not handle birds like chickens and ducks.

They also recommend you wash your hands after handling the birds and don’t kiss or snuggle backyard poultry.
